In conjunction with Mr. Black's English class, we are dramatizing three Greek myths and will be performing them for the other 7th grade class and for 6th graders. Below are the details:
o The class will be divided into three groups. Switching groups is not an option. Switching myths is not option. Basically, you have no options.
o Each group will present their myth in a skit which should last about 10-15 minutes.
o Students may use a script during the performance; however they may not read from their script. Having cue lines on an index card would be the best situation. Short lines should be memorized.
o Most of you will have to play more than one part in your skit. There must be at least one narrator for each skit. You may use two different people as narrator.
o You may use props and costumes.
o You must work as a team. You will fill out evaluation forms to give your opinion about your classmates’ willingness to work and their ability to accomplish their assignments within the group.
o You will have time to work on this during class for the next week; however, it will probably involve some before or after school meeting times as well. I will be available during class time to help and approve whatever zany ideas you come up with.
o Mr. Black’s class will perform the following myths: Perseus, Theseus and Heracles. They are inviting our class and the 6th graders to watch their skits on February 29th. We will invite their class to watch our three skits approximately one week later.
o You will each write an 11-sentence summary of your myth due Friday, February 29th.
o Each team will have a captain who is responsible for leading and delegating various tasks. Those individuals are in bold in the lists below.
The groups and their myths are assigned below:
Orpheus :Nick, Brennan, Sydney, Emily, Olivia, Laura (pages 102-104 in D'Aulaire's)
Oedipus: Allen, Jamie, John, Lacey, Amy, Meg (pages 158-161 in D'Aulaire's; stop in the middle of 161 after the death of Oedipus)
Calydonian Boar Hunt: Ben, Daniel, Kenton, Addy, Grace, Caroline (pages 176-177)
*I am out of town Thursday, February 28th so you will have time in class to finish writing your 11-sentence summary which is due the next day. Do NOT wait until class on Thursday, the 28th to start your summary. You may use that time to finish it; or, if everyone in your group is finished, you may work quietly on your skit. Mrs. Jorgensen will sub again.
